The BIUT-820 runs a series of tests on BIU devices that comply with NEMA Standards Publication TS2-2003 v2.06.
It is responsible for converting all the inputs and outputs that need to be controlled and monitored by the controller into a digital data stream. The data is transmitted to and received from the controller over a Synchronous Data Link Control (SDLC) connection. The only link between the BIU and the controller unit is the SDLC connection. This makes testing individual BIUs extremely difficult outside of a fully functional TS2 cabinet. The BIUT-820 is housed in an industry standard 19" rack mount type enclosure with a 3U height.
