Frequently Asked Questions

Speed hump, table or cushion: What's right for my streets?

• Speed humps are recommended for low-limit residential streets, slowing vehicles to 10-30 mph.

• Speed tables are ideal for locations where continued traffic flow is a priority, with the ability to slow speeds to 20-25 mph.

• Cushions are engineered specifically for traffic calming along emergency routes, with a staggered series of humps to allow the wider axle of emergency vehicles to pass over them without slowing down.

Do emergency vehicles have to slow down, too?

Not with rubber speed cushions, which allow emergency vehicles to straddle them without slowing down.

How are they installed, and are they removable?

Our rubber traffic calming devices are made of individual, interlocking rubber units that easily snap together during the installation process. Units are bolted and glued down in just a few hours, making any removal ahead of the winter or relocation simple, without the need for heavy equipment.

How effectively do rubber traffic calming devices slow traffic?

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) measured the effects of speed humps, tables and cushions on 85th percentile speeds.

Speed humps and tables were proven to reduce speeds by 18% and cushions saw a 19% reduction. Additionally, children living near installed traffic calming devices have a 53-60% lower chance of injury."

What are rubber devices made of, and how long do they last?

Our rubber traffic calming devices are made from 100% recycled, post-consumer tires.

Humps, tables and cushions automatically come with a two-year warranty in the event of material defects. One Maryland city found that a rubber speed hump was still working effectively after 10 years in a school zone.
